Artemis
Artemis is the great Olympian goddess of hunting, wilderness and wild animals
The deer and the cypress are sacred to Artemis. She was also a Goddess of childbirth, and the protectress of girls child up to the age of marriage. Artemis takes seriously her role as guardian of young children and patron of women in childbirth and fertility
The daughter of Leto and Zeus, she was the twin sister of Apollo, and born on the island of Delos. In the Trojan war she sided, like Apollo, with the Trojans.
The priests and priestesses devoted to her service were bound to live pure and chaste,
and trangressions of their vows of chastity were severely punished.
